Summary

A gorgeous guide to the Danish art of creating a cosy, happy home。

Our homes should be a place of comfort, a place to feel safe when we shut the door。 Somewhere to be ourselves, to unwind and create special memories。 Inspired by Danish design and traditions, this beautiful new book from Meik Wiking shares how to turn your home into a sanctuary and live like the happiest people in the world。

With simple tips based on new research from The Happiness Institute in Copenhagen, this book reveals what makes a happy home tick。 No matter how much space you have or what your budget is, Meik shows how you can use colour, light and space to create your happy place and celebrate cosiness the Danish way。

A bit intense on the history and science and less on the aesthetic than I had expected。 Excellent points made with deep insights on comfort, and Danish culture。

Meik Wiking’s books are always a delight to read。 Definitely a very cosy and inspiring book, and also full of practical ideas to apply at home and in life in general。

Cosy book that really makes you think about your home and what makes it a home。 Broken into short chapters so easy to dip in and out of。 Inspired me to find home comforts in a minimalist way。

This is the second book I’ve read by Wiking。 I enjoyed learning more about the Danish principle of hygee and how to incorporate it, especially reading it during winter。

This was the perfect book to read during Yule in the Midwest。 I love the ideas within and ways to incorporate hygge in so many different ways。

The book discusses the Danish concept of hygge, or coziness, and methods of achieving hygge in one's life (especially in the atmosphere of one's home)。 Overall the book was on the "fluffier" side (i。e。 the learning new things to page count ratio was relatively low), although it does cite numerous scientific studies on the ideal window to room size ratio or the positive effect of windows (although many of these facts seem relatively intuitive / unsurprising)。 Perhaps this book was not as useful t The book discusses the Danish concept of hygge, or coziness, and methods of achieving hygge in one's life (especially in the atmosphere of one's home)。 Overall the book was on the "fluffier" side (i。e。 the learning new things to page count ratio was relatively low), although it does cite numerous scientific studies on the ideal window to room size ratio or the positive effect of windows (although many of these facts seem relatively intuitive / unsurprising)。 Perhaps this book was not as useful to me because I've learned how to develop hygge for myself over the years through various internet mediums and friends, but could be something more useful to someone who finds their home unpleasant and non-comforting to exist in。One concept I liked that the book pointed out was the "Diderot Effect," or the notion that one new possession might create a spiral of purchasing new possessions to match (because the original is somewhat out of place in one's existing lifestyle)。 I find that the purchases that give me the most anxiety / buyer's regret are indeed those of this flavor。 Perhaps an extension of this is a mindset of utility; I find that I am most happy with possessions that are efficient, concise, and multipurpose (i。e。 folding tables, floor cushions that can cushion the floor or a chair, etc)。 Sometimes this extreme desire for utility and cohesiveness in one's possessions can be not so good -- I have two jackets with red inner lining and a pair of shoes where the cream on the tongue is slightly too yellow (can you tell I'm super sensitive to colors?) -- and every time I see these things I feel incredibly irked because it breaks the harmony in my other possessions。 I'm slowly trying to get over this, partially due to laziness / lack of time, but I am trying to learn how to be grateful for every item I own and judge them more for the positives of what they give me (rather than what they fail to give) while reserving critical judgement for periods of my life where I want to dedicate more time and energy to change。 。。。more

An interesting book that makes one think about their homes and office spaces。 We rarely stop to think about how spatial arrangement and design around our homes, offices and cities affects our well being。 This book is a reminder to reflect and make our spaces where we spend a lot of time cozy。Some pointers:- Natural light is important- Separation of work and home spaces for work from home is vital - Green in our environment is important- Spaces should be designed with our preferred activities in An interesting book that makes one think about their homes and office spaces。 We rarely stop to think about how spatial arrangement and design around our homes, offices and cities affects our well being。 This book is a reminder to reflect and make our spaces where we spend a lot of time cozy。Some pointers:- Natural light is important- Separation of work and home spaces for work from home is vital - Green in our environment is important- Spaces should be designed with our preferred activities in mind- Declutter 。。。more

A very light and casual read。 Told me a lot about the Danish way of creating homes and a glimpse into what life in Nordic countries would be like。 It appeals to me。

Just a pleasant, encouraging book! It made me appreciate our little space and dream for all the bigger spaces to come!

Because I loved the 1st one, my expectations were set high。 I did not get the hygge feeling with this one。 I was looking forward to this book including his personal photos, but there were none。 The layout and stock photos he used are warm and very hygge, the pages are smooth and thick, all the ingredients are there, but the something was missing for me。 Either way, still a delightful and enjoyable read。
